Lijepo si to napisao , iako je moj doživljaj nešto dugačiji.
Ovog ljeta sam konačno pročitao Grimizno slovo i bilo mi je nekako kičasto, sladunjavo. S radnjom ko iz nekog najbanalnijeg ljubića. Možda mi čak Slovo bolje korespondira sa Somnom nego Ljeto, i u Slovu su ideje patrijarhalne, konzervativne zajednice, licemjerja i ženskih prava u prvom planu, a u Ljetu te teme pojedu Indijanci, golotinja i šuma.
Entity nisam gledao, dok sam čitao Somnu na pamet mi je padala Vještica (2015). Ali Vještica je bila originalna, strašna, nelagodna..
Mislim, sad na kraju smo svi iskritizirali Somnu, a zapravo je skroz OK strip koji jako lijepo izgleda. Nije na razini tih nekih najjačih djela ali kao jedno lijepo jesensko čitanje nije za odbaciti.

Da, Leto je mnogo ambiciozniji strip. Pratt se uglavnom oslanjao na The Scarlet Letter i pozajmio ponešto iz biografije Anne Hutchinson. Somna je zasnovana na filmu The Entity. 
(Istraživački rad koji Pratt navodi u epilogu mi zvuči kao baronisanje. Na primer, taj Parkman nije napisao delo o Granici u 21 tomu, to je zapravo tek 21 nastavak o Divljem zapadu u jednom časopisu; o Granici je pisao opširnije u 7 tomova France and England in North America. Pa onaj Corwood iz Fibrinog izdanja ili Kurwood iz NBM-ovog je zapravo Curwood... btw Ameri su to preveli kao Valleys of Abraham, a reč je o njihovom čoveku koji je napisao Plains of Abraham, but who cares)
Leto je seksi zato što je male gaze: kreirala su ga dva muškarca za tebe i mene, a i muški likovi su subjekti. Nije da se ja sad kao nešto žalim , ali žene su objekti kako u tekstu (počev od prve scene) tako i u Manarinom crtežu, ali i na idejnom planu, što imamo u liku Phillis.
Zašto je ona stradala? Odnosno, šta je njena tragična greška? To nije njena bludna priroda, nego činjenica da je u odsudnom momentu istrčala iz zaklona da spasi brata. To je trenutak kad Phillis prvi put, za razliku od svoje majke, ima agency. Starom kapetanu i dečacima je ponestalo baruta i ona im, u najboljoj slici u stripu, hita u pomoć. Gle, ovi muški imaju kite (oružje) ali im ne rade (barut), a niko ne sme da istrči, bukvalno nemaju muda. I onda Phillis ispada više muško od njih. A zašto je istrčala? Zato što voli svog brata više od života, zato što ih sve voli. Za ljubav ne za mržnju, ja sam rođena. Ali to, po autorima, ženama nije dopušteno u muškom svetu. Phillis ih emaskulira i mora platiti. U Letu su žene sve kurve i sve su svetice, dok muškarci nisu ni za šta, znaju samo da mlataraju kitama i puškama.

Vidi, idealna prilika za crotch shot, ali čak i matori perverznjak kao što je Manara zna da nije momenat za to.
Kažem muški svet, a bolje je reći puritansko društvo, jer Leto nije kritika patrijarhata. Naprotiv, to je vrlo patrijarhalan strip, u kom autori hoće da pokažu šta se dešava kad pater ne ispunjava svoju ulogu: životi se raspadaju. U Letu su svi zakazali: sveštenik kao duhovni otac, kapetan kao vođa, potom odsutni biološki očevi...
Mislim, možda su Pratt i Manara zapravo hteli nešto potpuno drugo, ali nisu mogli protiv sebe. lol
E, tu smo povukli paralele sa Somna. Tematski su bliski, ali idejno se razilaze.
Somna ima female gaze, što ne znači da ćemo za promenu gledati muške aktove, nego da autorke rade strip iz ženskog ugla. Chick flick, je li. Kod njih žene nit su sve žrtve, niti su bezgrešne, a imaju i agency. I dalje je sve u privatnoj sferi, jer smo rekli da se radi o puritanskom društvu, gde je javna sfera rezervisana za muškarce. A oni ni ovde nisu puno bolji: muž ne ispunjava svoje bračne obaveze, sveštenik je glupan itd.
Konačno, da, Leto je razigrano, na momente i duhovito. Moj omiljeni detalj je kad onog mladog Indijanca, kakosezvao, kljucne gavran. Neko je na forumu napisao da je to štos. Nije to štos, to je ideja dela u malom. Gavrani su ovde, kao i obično, vesnici nesreće i simbol smrti. Ali još nije vreme za mladog ratnika, njega je smrt tek kljucnula, tek je osetio borbu, pre nego život ("i ja se želim igrati sa ženkama")... Gavran ga je, kao neki sveznajući kosac, spasao tragične greške: rana krene da mu krvari baš kad se sprema da ubije Elijahu, ali promaši jer ništa ne vidi od krvi. To bi bio greh za koji bi morao platiti, ali je ovako bezbedan, pa ga Elijah tek okrzne, doživi kraj i vidimo ga u epilogu.
Toga nema u Somna, ovo je, kao što podnaslov pošteno kaže, priča za laku noć. Mogao bih da je zamislim u nekom drugom formatu, prepričanu ukratko za neki stari broj EC comicsa, sve sa obrtom na kraju.
Taj obrt u poslednjem panelu je možda i najbolji deo stripa. Naker piše da je dvosmislen, meni je prilično jednoznačan, pomalo meta, i dobro zaokružuje inače predvidljivu priču.

Mene je Somna sve vreme podsećao na Indijansko leto, odnosno na neku žensku verziju Leta. Što ne znači nužno nekakav odraz u ogledalu.
To je sad dosta zamršeno pitanje, jer nije tako lako odrediti se prema Pratu & Manari. Čitao sam nedavno onu forumsku raspravu o Letu, je li vestern ili nije (nije), da li valja ili ne valja (meni bi valjalo više da se odlučilo za žanr). Italijani nisu mogli bez male gaze, dok faluse imamo samo u vidu pušaka kojima mlataraju valjda svi muškarci u njihovom stripu. Somna je nešto suptilnija, ali da ne kačim sad slike ako čitate na poslu. Pre nego što pitate, one dve matore drtine su žene više idealizovale nego Cloonan & Lotay ovde. Kod autorki isto imamo ženu kao žrtvu ali nisam siguran da je i jedna nedužna. Konačno, kao i Leto, i Somna je A4 hardcover, kao da hoće da vas ubedi da se ovo drži na polici a ne ispod kreveta. Nebitno, jer je klincima svakako nedostupno na odeljenju za odrasle ili za $30, ako se neko baš zaleti da kupi.
A razlog za kupovinu bi eventualno mogao biti crtež. O Cloonan smo već diskutovali, dok se Lotay igra fotkama. Što ne bi bilo toliko zanimljivo da nije neobične podele posla: stilizacija predstavlja stvarni svet, dok je fantazija realističnija. Kako radnja odmiče, stilovi počinju da se mešaju...

Detalj po kom ću verovatno zapamtiti naslov je ovaj ambiciozni pokušaj da se prikaže glava koja uranja u vodu. Uspešan ili ne, ali svakako hrabar. 
To, i jedan smešan (duhovit?) FX. Ako još neko zna o čemu pričam, priti pliz ostavite odgovor zašto im je to trebalo. 

Kao i sve ostalo na ovoj temi, ovo su samo lični utisci posle prvog čitanja i tek poziv na razgovor.
Potpisujem poređenje sa Indijanskim letom. Crtež bolja strana stripa što se mene tiče.

Iznenadilo me koliko je ovo mali strip. Format je A4, ali po svim drugim parametrima PPPP je srednjoškolski fanzin. Malo brojeva, malo strana, malo ambicija... Ali nije do autorke nego velikih očekivanja. Cash se zeza, istražuje, omažira... a za hajp su odgovorni oni koji su je proglasili za indie darling, slično kao što je Thorogood prošle godine bila "budućnost stripa". Ako negde i naletite na ova izdanja, predlažem da igrate bingo tražeći posvete: Clowes, Doucet, Brown, Crumb, O'Malley...


Toliko od mene, Transformere i Ukrajinu ću ostaviti nekom drugom.

Znate ko je Gwenpool? Nema veze. Jeff je njen ljubimac, kopnena ajkula. I onda pratimo njegove dogodovštine. Meh. Istina, humor je najsubjektivnija kategorija. Ovo je smešno ako imate sedam godina ili barem kućnog ljubimca. Na žalost, ja nemam ni jedno ni drugo. Osećam da je dobilo nagradu jer je kratko i slatko.

Čitao neko ostale nominovane naslove? Ili neki drugi strip koji je vama bio smešan, a da je američki i novijeg datuma? Hard mode: da je all ages. |

Jasno. Mislio sam na završnu scenu. U kontekstu stripa, ona je stvarna, ne? Spoiler: Podala se Đavolu. Pre toga je prikrivala ubistvo. Ali svakako nije zaslužila da umre na lomači. |

Koliko se sjećam, glavna junakinja je 99% nedužna. Ona je kao žena u najboljim godinama potpuno zanemarena i seksualno neispunjena, neiskorištena. Što je neoprostiv grijeh. (ne njezin)

To je sad dosta zamršeno pitanje, jer nije tako lako odrediti se prema Pratu & Manari. Čitao sam nedavno onu forumsku raspravu o Letu, je li vestern ili nije (nije), da li valja ili ne valja (meni bi valjalo više da se odlučilo za žanr). Italijani nisu mogli bez male gaze, dok faluse imamo samo u vidu pušaka kojima mlataraju valjda svi muškarci u njihovom stripu. Somna je nešto suptilnija, ali da ne kačim sad slike ako čitate na poslu. Pre nego što pitate, one dve matore drtine su žene više idealizovale nego Cloonan & Lotay ovde. Kod autorki isto imamo ženu kao žrtvu ali nisam siguran da je i jedna nedužna. Konačno, kao i Leto, i Somna je A4 hardcover, kao da hoće da vas ubedi da se ovo drži na polici a ne ispod kreveta. Nebitno, jer je klincima svakako nedostupno na odeljenju za odrasle ili za $30, ako se neko baš zaleti da kupi.
A razlog za kupovinu bi eventualno mogao biti crtež. O Cloonan smo već diskutovali, dok se Lotay igra fotkama. Što ne bi bilo toliko zanimljivo da nije neobične podele posla: stilizacija predstavlja stvarni svet, dok je fantazija realističnija. Kako radnja odmiče, stilovi počinju da se mešaju...

Detalj po kom ću verovatno zapamtiti naslov je ovaj ambiciozni pokušaj da se prikaže glava koja uranja u vodu. Uspešan ili ne, ali svakako hrabar. 
To, i jedan smešan (duhovit?) FX. Ako još neko zna o čemu pričam, priti pliz ostavite odgovor zašto im je to trebalo. 

Kao i sve ostalo na ovoj temi, ovo su samo lični utisci posle prvog čitanja i tek poziv na razgovor. |

Au. Drugari, tek ovo nije za nas. 
Preleteo sam recenzije i svi su u fazonu postapokaliptični SF u kom devojčica & njen pas koji govori idu na quest da spasu svet od crne magije... bla bla. Samo je jedan, na Goodreads valjda, namirisao neku kritiku MAGA pokreta. Istina, naslov je YA, pa je nerealno očekivati neko kritičko čitanje od čitaoca kome je strip namenjen. Spojleri ispod slike.

Nakon generičkog zapleta čeka nas isto tako predvidljiv obrt: čika Bernard je zapravo negativac. Dane provodi u svojoj man cave, čezne za starim dobrim vremenima i kuje planove kako da vrati vreme unazad. Ovo poslednje treba shvatiti bukvalno, a spreman je da žrtvuje vrli novi svet da bi to ostvario. I ovo žrtvovanje treba shvatiti doslovno: svi će, uključujući i devojčicu & njenog psa koji govori, prestati da postoje. Nema crne magije, samo žal za mladost u kojoj je bilo struje i sličnih trica.
Na ovom forumu sam jednom branio tezu da u umetnosti nema loših ideja (iako, naravno, postoje crvene linije). Ideja koju su ovde autori poturili je legitimna. Objasniću zašto mislim da je slabo izvedena. Prvo, čika Bernard je fizički boomer a okružen je Gen X nostalgijom, poput video igara i VHS kaseta. OK, recimo da su to rastegljivi pojmovi ali smrdi na ono don't trust anyone over thirty. No, recimo i da se ja sad samo durim zbog udarca ispod pojasa.
Ali čika Bernardova motivacija ga čini neubedljivim likom. Nema ovde MAGA kritike, iako je mogla biti servirana na volej. Naime, ostatak stripa govori o nesavršenom svetu u kome ljudi svih rasa i polova dele cenu magije da bi ostvarili neverovatne stvari (get it?). Međutim, čika Bernardu prosto nedostaje bolja prošlost, na primer procesovana hrana.
A sad zamislite da su autori rekli da čika sve ovo radi... zbog svoje dece?
Bio bi pravi tragični lik.
Leglo bi mi ko budali šamar.
Ovako... više sreće sledeći put. |

Najs. Meni je kultna bila The Book of the Dun Cow, kod nas prevedena kao U davno doba. Ne mogu ni da zamislim da bi se mom klincu to svidelo. Svako vreme ima svoje heroje. U prvom razredu mi je rekao da im učiteljica dosađuje sa Harijem Poterom jer je to čitala kao dete... 
Ne znam je li mi nevjerojatnije što je današnjim prvašima Harry Potter dosadan ili što netko tko ga je čitao kao dijete sad predaje u školi...

Na žalost, tokom karantina sam izgubio naviku da idem u LCBS, tako da mesečnu produkciju pratim površno i sa kašnjenjem. A Nightwing nije čak ni među naslovima koje čitam iz morbidne radoznalosti, poput ASM ongoinga. Tako da nemam pojma koliko je ovo zasluženo, a koliko rezultat drugih faktora. Pominjali smo broj 87, koji je isto kao 105 bio eksperiment. Nevolja sa ovogodišnjim dobitnikom je što su stripovi u prvom licu 1) već viđeni i 2) nešto što drugi mediji, recimo video igre, odavno rade mnogo bolje. Ili ako ste mlađahni, možete probati i lično...

Lepi primeri. Da, verovatno zavisi kakvi su lejauti. U Plaštu postavka ima mnoge elemente konačnog crteža. Kod Amera je to česta praksa, pa tamo ima svačega, od Moorea preko Morrisona do Millera i Busceme, svako je manje ili više postavljao crtež, s tim što je velika razlika između prvog i poslednjeg. |

U oba slučaja, dobivamo nešto što samo od jednog autora ne bismo dobili - stripove koji su i majstorski kadrirani i majstorski dovršeni. Win-win!

Iako nije stvar lejauta, nego čisto suradnje dvaju autora u kojoj se svaki usredotočuje na svoj "forte" i iako nisam zapravo nigdje vidio kako braća Brizzi dijele posao, na osnovi njihovih "fine art" radova

Nego, na naslovnoj stoji adapted and illustrated by James Sturm and Joe Sutphin. Izgleda da je ovaj prvi radio postavku, a ovaj drugi zapravo crtao. Zanimljivo je da dele kredit. Pitanje za ove s viškom vremena: kako vi gledate na lejaute?
Potpitanje: da li je ovo rešenje maznuto iz crtanog filma?

Stalno mešam Kima Deitcha i Griffitha pa se obradujem kako će biti zabavan strip, kad ono... Čitao neko njegov Invisible Ink? Možda ga se sećate kao My Mother's Love Affair With A Famous Cartoonist. Kakav uzbudljiv podnaslov! A jedino što pamtim je kad na nekoj sahrani pričaju samo o hrani, to mi je bilo baš onako, autentično. No, ovog puta je podnaslov pošten.
Pa kakav je bio čovek koji je kreirao Nancy? Eh. I never did anything interesting. I don't know what you can write about me. Griffith ga crta uglavnom pogrbljenog nad crtaćim stolom, i tako decenijama. Srećom, kao i svaka dobra biografija, i ova je life and times, pa ćemo u prolazu sresti Reginalda Marsha, Harolda Lloyda, Groucha Marxa, Georga Herrimana, Eleanoru Roosevelt, Ala Plastina i mnoge druge. The Story of Ernie Bushmiller je tako istorija - ako ne baš Amerike u dvadesetom veku - onda barem istorija novinskog stripa.
A Nancy? Ako ste je videli, možda se setite da autor u pozadini često crta ova tri kamena iz naslova. Zašto baš tri? quote: Because two rocks wouldn't be "some rocks." Two rocks would be a pair of rocks. And four rocks was unacceptable because four rocks would indicate "some rocks" but it would be one rock more than was necessary to convey the idea of "some rocks." A Nancy panel is an irreduceable concept, an atom, and the comic strip is a molecule.
To McCloud citira Spiegelmana. Sumnjivo je što se ni jedan ni drugi ne pominju u knjizi. Još sumnjivije je izostavljanje autorke pod pseudonimom Olivia Jaimes, koja je 2018. sa uspehom nastavila strip. Sluggo is lit nije "lit" za Griffitha?
Istina, ima i ovako u knjizi dovoljno razmišljanja o stripu kao mediju da bismo mogli otvoriti gomilu tema samo o tome. Bushmiller jeste zabavljao raju ali je istovremeno bio formalista u večitoj potrazi za "savršenim gegom".
Čak i ako niste čitali Nancy, bez brige, unutar korica je reprodukovano na desetine odabranih kaiševa. A Wally Wood je objasnio da By the time you decided not to read Nancy, you already had.
Da ne preporučujem sad, već ste odlučili da li je ovaj strip za vas ili ne. Ja ću mu se vraćati, možda ne od početka i redom, i uprkos užasnom letteringu.
