Islamic State militants being forced back in Kobani
Kobani: The YPG Press Centre has announced that YPG/YPJ forces are continuing to force back Islamic State IS group militants in Kobani. The YPG Press Centre stated that the IS militants attacks on Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan are continuing for an 87th day, adding: “Our forces that have forced back the IS groups in the city are continuing their operation in the rural areas.” The YPG stated that their forces intervened when gangs attempted to infiltrate on the south eastern front last night, killing 7 IS militants. To the south west of Kobani, in the Rahbê area, YPG forces carried out an attack on gang groups based there, killing two gang members. An operation was also mounted against gangs on the Aleppo road, with two IS militants killed. “Our forces carried out an operation 15 kilometres to the west of Kobani between the villages of Sosanê and Siftek. A vehicle was destroyed along with the gang members in it. The number of the gang fatalities and casualties could not be ascertained,” the statement concluded.

IS suicide bomber attacks Sherfedin in Sinjar
Shingal: The Islamic State IS group militants launched Thursday a massive attacks on the Kurdish Yazidi pilgrimage site Sherfedin north of Sinjar (Shingal) mountains. Sinjar's Protection Unit HPS reports that three vehicles were approaching the pilgrimage site, including a suicide bomber. The vehicle loaded with explosives could be destroyed at the right time by Kurdish Yazidi resistance fighters of the HPS before the suicide bomber, who is said to have been stopped by heavy shelling, was able to reach the pilgrimage site and civilians. The two other vehicles which were involved in that offensive eventually retreated following heavy clashes. According to resistance fighters, the suicide bomber's vehicle was a truck that was escorted by two armoured IS vehicles. Four resistance fighters were reportedly injured as the result of that suicide attack, the suicide bomber himself died together with four further IS militants who were killed by HPS fighters. The months-long clashes over the pilgrimage site Sherfedin are intensifying. For the first time, the Islamic State sends out suicide bombers, as in other embattled regions.

Captured IS member repents for joining the group: 'I realised that this is not about God'
http://www.christiantoday.com/article/captured.is.member.repents.for.joining.the.group.i.realised.that.this.is.not.about.god/44361.htm?
Hundreds of Islamic State (IS) members are being held captive by the Kurds in Sulaymaniyah, and face prison or even death for their crimes against religious minorities.
While some deflected responsibility for the atrocities they committed, others have reportedly expressed regret for joining the terrorist organisation.
One captured IS member from Dor sal-hadeen said that he joined the militants in June after they took over his village.
"They came to our area and forced me to protect their lands," the man, using the name "Omar," told Fox News in an interview published Friday. "After a while they told me, 'When are you going to start protecting your own land?'
"They told me to do it or die, and then they killed people in front of me."
Omar said he was also incentivised by the prospect of leaving his new wife.
"Something in her head – she looked normal on the outside, but she wasn't," he explained, adding that she "couldn't have babies."
The 25-year-old admitted to killing 70 people for "saying bad words about [one of the Prophet Muhammad's wives] Aisha," and "burning a mosque."
He now says that he was a victim of IS, did not act on his own will, and wants to fight against them. Omar fled the terrorist group but was captured by the Kurds in October. He was convicted of terrorism and sentenced to life in prison, commuted from a death sentence.
Another IS member held by the Kurds, Dawen, said he was intrigued by IS after reading the group's Facebook posts encouraging Muslims to join the fight in Syria. After 20 days with the terrorists, he felt he made a mistake.
"I realised that this is not about God, especially after I was captured," he admitted. "I realise this isn't about God; it is about harming people. Also, the Kurdish people were nice even with my situation."
The 19-year-old described how it felt to tell his family he had joined IS.
"I called my family and they were not happy, it was shameful," Dawen lamented. "I felt weak because they made me act and think a certain way... I was asking for forgiveness, even while there."
Dawen faces terrorism charges and has not yet been sentenced.
An anonymous security official told Fox News that it is easy for IS to recruit young Muslim men as members.
"Understand that most are young and have no information," he explained. "They are impressionable. They listen to the second-life paradise story, 72 virgins, rivers of wine, and [staying] young forever. That is all they know.
"Some regret their actions, some do not."
Grim testament to Islamic State's ethnic cleansing

The jihadis are targeting other Muslim sects, as well as Christians, who have fled by the tens of thousands, but their women haven't been taken as chattel. "ISIS looks for young Yazidi girls to rape, 11 to 13 years old, and does it over and over," she related emotionally. Some of the captives have been able to call home on cellphones and describe the horrors they have endured or witnessed. The three daughters of one of her cousins were taken and are still missing; the cousin was murdered.

Hunger Strike Passes 19th Day
http://www.roozonline.com/english/news3/newsitem/archive/2014/december/12/article/hunger-strike-passes-19th-day.html?
As the hunger strike of 27 political prisoners in the town of Orumiyeh, west of Tabriz in north-western part of Iran, entered its 19th day, news came that the prisoners were denied telephone calls to their relatives, cutting off all communications with the outside world. Kamal Hosseini, a reporter in West Azerbaijan province told Rooz that the prisoners had told him earlier that they would continue their hunger strike until their demands are met.

Eyewitness account: When the Peshmerga went to Kobane to fight ISIS - zanimljiv osvrt major-generala Abdulqahara Majeeda, koji je predvodio onih prvih 150 Peshmerga iz Iraka u Kobani
http://www.guerardmedia.com/eyewitness-account-when-the-peshmerga-went-to-kobane-to-fight-isis/
nekoliko odlomaka:
“After we landed at the airport (u Turskoj) we were taken to two closed warehouses in Pirsuz. They kept us there for more than 24 hours and gave us only one meal. They did not even allow the Peshmerga to use the toilets,” Majeed recalled.
He used the phone of a visiting MP from the Kurdish People’s Democracy Party (HADEP) to call Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani and the Peshmerg minister. “The president was actually very angry,” Majeed said. “He told me to wait for only one more hour, but even in less than that we were visited by the mayor of Urfa and the Turkish military commander of the region,” said Majeed.
Nine Peshmerga officers were finally accompanied to the Kobane border by three Turkish intelligence agents and the Turkish army commander.
“They took us to a certain location on the border and told us to enter Kobane from that point. We informed the YPG fighters that we would arrive to Kobane. The YPG fighters told us to hurry because Kobani was about to fall,” Majeed recounted.
He said that, when they entered, 80 percent of Kobani was under the control of IS.
With the arrival of the Peshmerga, IS bombarded and attacked the city for 10 straight days.
“After the tide of the battle shifted, we moved from defensive to offensive fighting and were able to liberate four streets of Kobane in one day. When we reached there, a YPG commander requested a sniper and a night vision goggle. I conveyed his request to President Barzani. After a short period they received two machine guns, two snipers and one night vision goggle. I would never forget that moment, because they felt very happy and prayed a lot for us and thanked the president Barzani,” said Majeed.
Talking about the situation in Kobane, Majeed said that when they entered the city they spotted only two vehicles – a lifeless city. “But after we achieved victories and advances we were able to control 55 percent of the city and some families were able to return to their homes. There are currently 150 families in Kobane, but they are in a very bad situation and they have nothing to eat. They depend entirely on the food they find in the abandoned houses,” said Majeed.
The commander finished by recounting an incident that happened while they were fighting in Kobane: “A rocket fell into our base and burned it down completely, injuring 14 Peshmerga soldiers, two of them are still in the hospital. The rest have returned safely to their homes. When we looked at our destroyed base, everything was burned to the ground, except the place where we kept a Quran. We were amazed by this and recorded it on video. This really is a sign that God is helping us,” said Majeed.
YPG takes control of region near Termîk and Aleppo road Sunday, 14 December 2014 13:05 hawarnews NEWS DESK - YPG (People's Defense Units) Press Centre has announced that their forces are continuing operations against ISIS gangs that are now in defensive position as attacks aiming to occupy Kobanî continued on the 89th day. YPG/YPJ fighters took control of the Termik village road, the second most important one leading to the city from the south, as result of an operation targeting the areas occupied by the ISIS groups on the southern front of Kobanî. The area between the Aleppo and Termik roads has entirely been cleansed of gang groups and all the roads ISIS used for bringing in reinforcements from the south have been taken under control. The results and casualties couldn't be verified as the Protection Units are continuing search activities in the operation area. Three members of the ISIS were killed as YPG/YPJ fighters carried out an attack against the gang groups in the Kaniya Kurdan region on the eastern front. One other action by YPG/J targeted the ISIS groups based around the Culture and Art Center on the southeastern front, leaving 2 members of the gangs dead. One ISIS member was killed in another operation that targeted the gang groups around the Tal Ahmad village 24 km south-west Qamişo earlier yesterday.

Unedited interview with YPJ commander Deniz on the offensive against ISIS - zanimljiv intervju
http://www.guerardmedia.com/unedited-interview-with-ypj-commander-deniz-on-the-offensive-against-isis/
YPJ (Women’s Defense Units) Commander Azime Deniz spoke to ANF about the latest situation in Kobanê where the attacks by the ISIS and the resistance by YPG has entered the third month. Deniz said that following two months in defensive position, they have now moved into an active offensive position, having liberated a number of locations and achieved superiority on all three fronts.

We have made siginificant advances since we moved into offensive position on all three fronts, especially on the southern following the Botan operation. The IS gangs remain only in some houses in this area. The ISIS had made a significant advance on the eastern front during the period we remained in defensive position but with the most recent offensive, some major locations have been cleansed of IS gangs and liberated. We can now move freely in the areas we have captured on Aleppo road where our movements had been resitricted earlier. On the eastern front, we have now reached the border of the region we call Medresa Resh and our offensives are continuing on the basis of forming a line of defense. We also have the circumstances to take more key positions and to force the ISIS gangs to retreat further in the east. On the southern front, the IS launched a major attack with armored vehicles and tanks on 29 November. They are not being able to conduct further attacks on the southern front after this attack of theirs was broken. Clashes are taking place in some areas but we are maintaining our lines of defense and inflicting severe blows on the enemy by advancing up to their inner lines in this region.
I can say that we have also gained a spiritual advantage now after moving into an offensive position. We are sometimes having difficulty in holding our forces as some comrades are conducting offensives against IS gangs and taking some houses despite there being no planning by our side.
While we were in defensive position, the IS gangs were mainly using weapons suitable for the battle inside the city, not mortars and heavy weapons. Following the initiation of our offensive, the IS gangs resorted to mortar and suicide attacks as they suffered heavier blows and were forced to retreat. This way of attacking shows the weakness and regression of the IS, also failing to help them accomplish a result against us. We are prepared for attacks of all kinds and levels.
